This past month, LiveWell completed another beautiful bathroom remodel. This bathroom had a small shower and a large garden tub. While the bathroom was beautiful, it was not functional nor safe for a gentleman living with Polio.

                                  After bathroom remodel

In the first (BEFORE) photo, you see that the shower area was very small. There were grab bars installed in the shower, but it was a very tight area. Walking into the shower with a walker or, in the future, needing to enter with a wheelchair just wasn't a possibility. LiveWell removed the large garden tub and took out the existing shower. We tiled the entire space and it the shower zero-entry so that a walker and wheelchair can both get into and out of the shower easily. We also added grab bars all throughout the new shower so that the homeowner could grab onto something for support wherever he was standing in the shower.

We also came back at the homeowner's request and added a frosted film over the window so that they could keep the window and all of the natural light that it lets in.

  Doorway Widening

We also widened several doorways in the home that were too small for a walker to fit through the doorway. Leaving the walker at the doorway and walking in unassisted is a falling hazard that this family doesn't need. Widening that doorway allows for the homeowner to safely move in and out of the bathroom while keeping his walker with him.

This home now has a safe and accessible master bath that this homeowner can use now and, in the future, regardless of his mobility needs. If you've been considering updated your bathroom or are making plans to age in place in the home that you love, please send us a message! We would love to work with you to give you the safe and accessible bathroom of your dreams!
