Frequently Asked Questions
HOW MUCH DOES THE PORTABLE LIFT WEIGH?
DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO STAND TO USE A SIT-TO-STAND DEVICE?Our Sit-to-Stand devices are designed for those that have trouble standing. The device supports the feet, back, and lower legs to help you get to that standing position. Then you can choose to walk under your own power or be transported with the device to another sitting position. This device improves the safety for caregivers and family members that are often relied upon to help a person stand.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE PROPER SLING?
Fabric: The sling fabric choice is important. For instance, if there is a possibility of the sling getting wet from incontinence or bathing, then a mesh fabric is ideal. If you have sensitive skin and require more comfort, then a padded sling may be better.
Shape: Livewell’s hammock slings are full-body slings that support the entire body including the head. Our Universal slings are the most popular due to their ability to support a person whether seated, reclined, or supine. LiveWell also offers hygiene slings with an open bottom for toileting and providing an easier way of removing clothing from a patient.
Size: The fit of the sling is critical to the safety and comfort of the patient. By understanding your weight and height, we can fit you in the proper sized sling.
HOW DO I DECIDE BETWEEN A FLOOR LIFT, PORTABLE OVERHEAD LIFT, OR CEILING LIFT?Ceiling lifts are a permanent fixture in the home; they use a track system mounted to the ceiling. The benefit is that it takes up no floor space and it is always there when needed. Portable overhead lifts can be transferred and set up very easily. If you need a solution that you can take anywhere then a portable lift may be best. A floor lift gives you the versatility of transferring someone in nearly limitless locations. Because floor lifts run on wheels, floors need to be flat with limited thresholds or obstacles.
What Are Patient Lifts?
The FDA defines patient lifts as devices “designed to lift and transfer patients from one place to another”, typically using a sling or secure grab bar. These lifts can be used to help you get in and out of bed, into a bath, or into your favorite comfy chair. Patient lifts can be machine-operated or entirely manual, and depending on the type of life you use, may or may not require outside assistance. With a functional patient lift from LiveWell Mobility and Modifications, you’ll be able to do more to move yourself with less assistance.
